Kilroy should stand down
Letter published in the Leicester Mercury, Jan 26

The news that Robert Kilroy-Silk is about to found a new party while remaining an MEP ("Kiilroy-Silk set to head new party", Jan 20) raises serious constitutional issues. In European elections, people vote not for an individual but for a party. If he has had a change of heart about the policies on which he was elected, the honourable course for him is to step down and let UKIP's number three candidate take his place.

Otherwise, it seems that we are now to have two parties campaigning on the same set of deeply misguided policies, the only difference being the face on the packaging.
