Unfortunately, Chris Heaton-Harris' claim in his party's newsletter that the Conservatives are campaigning to save our local post offices is a comedy of errors, which provoked me to respond as one who really is campaigning to save the Clarendon Park branch in Queens Road.
Alas, the Tories started too late. They are not aware that the closing date for returning any objections to post office closures was May 24.
While the late Jim Marshall, MP, did some work to save branches threatened with closure in Leicester South, it has been the Green Party who spearheaded a campaign to save the Queens Road Post Office, which included launching a petition that more than 3,200 people signed.
Sadly, the photograph in the Tories' "Community News" is also wrong. This showed Chris Heaton-Harris campaigning to save the Queens Road branch. In fact, he was standing outside the West Knighton Post Office in Aberdale Road, which is closing on July 17, and not at the Queens Road branch in Clarendon Park, which we are fighting to save.
Bob Ball, Green Party, Leicester.
